Recent news reports have focused on the growing trend of some dentists who ship their laboratory cases overseas to have crowns, dentures, and other work made for them at a discounted fee.  These offshore dental laboratories are not regulated by the US Government, and many are unchecked even by their own governments (such as China and Mexico). Consequently, there are numerous reports of dental laboratory cases which have been completed offshore being placed in  patients that contain toxic metals, like lead, and other contminated or undesirable materials. It's a shame, but it's true.  And  as a patient, how would you ever even know? Do you have a question? ASK US! " ...What about those 1-800 - "find - me - a -dentist"  telephone services that I see advertised on radio & television ...How come Dr. J. isn't  listed ? " The answer is that these 800 numbers are little more than high-priced advertising schemes, where subscribing dentists pay a surprisingly large amount of money to a private company (the most well known one is a company located all the way out in California)  that answers those telephone calls.  Then a "very caring" well-trained telephone operator enters your zip code and "refers"   the closest office that subscribes to their service to the caller. We don't subscribe to these "800" services because the overwhelming majority of our new patients are personal referrals from within our family of existing patients. Our patients know us, and they are a far more reliable source of information about us then someone who is a few thousand miles away who is reading from a computer screen ! ********************************************************************************************************************************* Ask Us About Our New Digital Radiographs ("xrays") ! We're recently converted all of our treatment areas to the latest digital radiograph technology.   No more bulky xray films, far less xray dose, instant results, greener for the enviornment without chemicals, and crystal clear images for diagnosis... we're excited about it! Truth is, we all have to be extremely careful about xrays.  In Dentistry, they help us to diagnose the unseen things, like between-the-teeth cavities, unerupted wisdon teeth, and evidence of gum disease, just to name a few. What does the "F A G D" after Dr. Josephsen's name stand for ? " FAGD stands for Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. J earned his Fellowship from The Academy in 2005, having completed over 500 hours of continuing education in all areas of Dentistry and Dental Medicine, followed by a seven hour written examination.  Membership in the AGD requires a commitment to even more continuing education hours annually, and so not all dentists choose to belong to the AGD, nor do all members pursue and attain Fellowship.   Continuing Education is a resonsibility that we feel very strongly about, and we continue to seek the knowledge of the best and brightest on our patient's behalf.   When you visit us, feel free to glance through the listings of continuing education courses that Dr. Josephsen has completed, which is located in the reception area!
